Sanity is madness put to good use. – George Santayana
Last Friday morning I booted-up my trusty Mac to check my blog’s stat counter. I usually have 20 hits by 10 a.m. because my mom, and my other relatives, get up early and log on to see what I’ve been up to. When I looked at the statcounter, I dropped my can of Coke on the floor. My stat counter was going crazy. When I followed the path to see where everyone was coming from, I found out that my blog made the “Blogs of Note” list.
I feel like I’m making an acceptance speech at the Oscars, but I want to thank the good people at Blogger Buzz and Google for choosing my blog. It’s a labor of love, and I enjoy writing about the nursing profession. I also want to thank everyone for the thoughtful comments.

I delete chain letters, and ads. I also hit the delete button when someone should have their mouth washed out with soap. Otherwise, I’m pretty laid-back about comments on my blog.

Hi there, Is that really your pix in your profile? I thought it was Ellen Burstyn or some familiar actress who starred in ” One flew over the cuckoo nest “
Your blogsite contents are interesting, esp for the nursing profession.

I came to ur blog first time yesterday and I must say you have an interesting read here. Thats why you made it to the Blogs of Note. Added to my sidebar too – who knows? You may just convince me enough to leave the legal professiona nd join the nursing one. (smile) Have a wonderful day.

That’s quite the pulp you got there. Too bad they don’t write stuff like that about English teachers in foreign countries…or do they?
Insightful blogs about an occupation that doesn’t get enough recognition about the blowhards they encounter.
Salut!

Mother Jones RN, I’ve shared your profession for the last 30 years. I know the rewards and the pain, but I wouldn’t change my choice for anything. I have never been unhappy with being a nurse. Thank you for encouraging others. But those old nurses with the caps died in the 70′s. I was snatched bald hitting it on the curtains and other equipment.

Hello everyone:
The picture in my profile is of Nurse Mildred Ratched from the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Louise Fletcher played the character of Nurse Ratched. I had just started nursing school in 1975 when the movie came out, and was going through my psych rotation at a V.A. hospital when the movie came to town. Fortunately, I haven’t met too many nurses like Nurse Ratched during my nursing career.
I don’t know that I’ll ever post a picture of myself on my blog. I like the anonymity, at least for now. How many hits did I get on my blog? My statcounter recorded over 25,000 hits in three days. I was so excited I started hyper-
ventilating, and had to breath into a paper bag. I’m very grateful to my readers, and I hope you keep coming back.

Hello Luvs to Sew:
When I was in nursing school and had to wear my cap, I use Kleenex and two dozen bobby pins to keep that sucker on my head, so when it got hung up on something, I also lost a lot of hair when my cap fell off of my head. The cap is a noble symbol of our profession, but in reality, they weren’t very practical.

Dang, 25,000 hits? That’s more hits than at a 60′s retro party!
Congrats Nurse Ratched! I’m glad you are getting the exposure. I giggle at your writings each day.

I’m back!
surprised it took you that long to notice, though. it IS about time some medical blogs got noticed by Blogger, especially nurse blogs (which are often more entertaining than doctor blogs, for some weird reason I could neve hope to fathom (read: nurses have it harder.)) I assume you live in the US? thank your lucky stars. nurses in the UK are getting replaced by “nurse-specialists”. think Arnie Schwarzenegger getting replaced by Kristanna Loken.

“Nurse-specialists?” That’s a breed I’ve never heard of before. Tell us more, angry medic. Are they like nurses’ aids?

In Australia, we have a new ‘professional’ breed called “Clinical Nurse Practitioner”. These professionals are basically doctors without the aura of Godliness or paypacket……
I was reading through your archives, Mother Jones, and I was very moved by your story about Lisa…but then I was disgusted when I saw the ads on the bottom and sidebar; there were 7 ads, and 5 out of the 7 were promoting weightloss….Arrrgghhhh! BAD GOOGLE!!!!
Thank you for sharing. When you’ve finished nursing, there’s a book in these blogs!
Cheers, Cyndy;)

Wow, what a cool blog.
I have been considering becoming a nurse for awhile now, ever since I was hospitalized for a good 4 days several years ago. The nurses made all the difference in my experience while in the hospital, and I know it can’t be an easy job so kudos to all of you for all the care you bring to the profession.
Not sure if I’ll find myself sharing your profession one day or not, but I’ll be sure to keep checking out your fabulous blog from time to time.
Cheers!

Hey!
Like the others, I stumbled here via Blogger’s blogs of note. Nice blog.
By the way, I can’t help but notice that you don’t link to the Fake Doc. He was picked as a blog of note a long time ago, but I *STILL* read him. You’d probably like him too. And, no, he’s not paying me to say this.

I am a RN and understand your concerns and your frustrations.
Your blog is EXCELLENT. Your comments raise serious questions for all of us medical people out here and bring to light the precarious, sad, and sometimes downright dirty situations that we encounterfor non medically literate people to consider about our profession.
I give you a 5 Stars!

Hey — nice blog. I’m desperately trying to drive some traffic to my own blog (http://eglick.blogspot.com in case you can’t link easily). Any tips? I’d love to get on the Blogs of Note list, too. A man can dream, can’t he?
