Hello David:

I'm honored. I didn't know that anyone from the American Spectator was interested in my blog. It's so nice to have a republican attack dog drop by. There was a time when your party was on the right side of issues. Those times are long gone. The GOP has been highjacked by the far right. I know many life time republicans that are going to vote for Obama. That’s right! Many of your own members can’t stand your party anymore. Believe it or not, the late U.S. Senator Craig Thomas was my cousin. For those who may not know, Craig was Republican. He wasn't like you, David. Craig and I didn’t agree on politics, but he was a very descent man who worried about the future of his party. Craig listened to people, he didn't attack them. Best of all, he didn’t mind having liberals in the family.

I wrote a nice post about my birthday, and it was smothered in poison. I want to thank all of you for proving my point. Thank God for liberal children. They are the only ones that can save the world from people like you.

This discussion is now closed.

Women's Suffrage: Oh my gosh, Women ARE actual people! Damn Susan B. Anthony!

As it happens, Coty, women's suffrage was blocked by the Democrats until the Republicans took over both houses of Congress in 1918. It was a Republican-controlled Congress that passed the 19th Amendment and sent it to the states.

Many of the other things you list are also Republican accomplishments. Do your homework. It will make you a better (more informed) voter.

I'm Republican. I'm waaay rich, hate all poor people and minorities.

No wait.

I was really poor too. Not "couldn't afford a cell phone" poor, like living in a trailer with no heat in the winter (sleeping on the floor next to the open oven works), no working sewage system for months (peed at the gas station or in a bucket, showered at the school health club). I am diabetic and bought my own insulin and strips out of pocket. Went to Minute Clinic. One thing I didn't do was apply for welfare. My relatives gave us meat from deer they hunted n stuff. I ate potatoes and oatmeal. Since I work hard, I got out of it though.

Chronic back pain can be managed at a clinic in 99.999% of cases. The ER is the place for life or limb/organ-threatening emergencies.

Most places have some sort of sliding-fee clinic you can go to where they calculate the fee for a visit based on your income. Here is a website that will help you if you're from Arizona. If I were your nurse in AZ, I'd give you your ibuprofen prescription and a list of these clinics and hope you went to one of them to manage your CHRONIC problem in a non-acute care setting as is the custom for such problems.

Nurse K. I've been on welfare in the past. I had to live in low-income housing and use food stamps. Be on Medicaid.

Does that make me a bad person?

In addition, we currently have no insurance and should we have to go to the ER for anything, I'd have to say that we're uninsured. Would that make us less than 'real people' in your eyes?

If I had to go to the ER for my back pain (should it get that bad)....would you roll your eyes at me when I'm not there looking for meds, but pain relief but still refer to me as a 'seeker'?

And, should I come into the ER, wearing an Obama pin (or T-shirt), in Arizona, with no insurance and an exacerbation of chronic back pain, would you be quick to judge me as a person or judge my situation?

I'll wait here. Thanks

Your daughter questioned my intelligence and my mom's intelligence. Without any other compelling argument to make as to why one would be in favor of things detrimental to our country, I guess that would be a natural response. In addition to personal and familial insults (my mom doesn't work in a call center, Coty, sorry), she came out with various yes/no things that resembled a DailyKos spam, and I addressed some of that too.

I didn't say anything about your kid specifically, only that I don't agree with her/your ideas on robbing Peter to pay Paul and the general concept of indoctrinating children into a political party in elementary school. If you think that children should be taught to dislike the party you're not in, you can go right ahead with that, but I see the influence of that type of "we're good/they're bad" upbringing in her personally hateful comments towards me and Republicans as a whole. We're pretty normal, you should hang out with us sometime. If brought up to think we were bad/racist/whatever, why would she want to though?

Indoctrination is the antithesis of critical thought, BTW. I just ask that other parents consider that idea when talking about politics with their young children, if at all.

Nurse K:

I’m a proud parent who loves her kids. What’s your beef? I pity you. You’ve had a very difficult life, and you don’t understand that you are supporting the very people that have exploited you. You are making demeaning comments about my children. If you want to debate issues, go for it, but keep your personal comments to yourself. Shame on you. Personal attacks about my family are not welcome on this blog.

Yeah, but someone tell me the point of having a 9-year-old parrot your political ideas. That's like a weird self-esteem thing on the parent's part. I guess I don't need an elementary school kid to validate my political opinions by repeating them back to me or repeating them to his teacher. Kids can and should parrot other things like politeness, respect, please and thank you, and all the big words I use, but the politics thing is odd to me. It's obviously not for the kid, but for the parents at that age.

The 'blessed' liberal child is not a liberal child. The child is just a kid saying something that will make mom happy or like what mom says. A child can't be liberal nor conservative.

Gee Coty, you must not have read what I said. I described some of the historical reasons why my mom/her dad were liberal and how that stuff is not relevant to today's world which happened to be a lot of the stuff you mentioned. The history of liberalism does not concern me today. It did have a place back in the day. What concerns me is the incremental move toward socialism and a state intent on appeasement. Lincoln was a Republican and without Lincoln, the South probably wouldn't be part of America, blah blah blah. Irrelevant to today's world.

Your "yes" stuff for McCain is all stuff I agree with. Whew! It also re-affirms my fundamental disagreement with liberals---that "the rich" should not be demonized and that the Federal government should not have limitless access to their money and their businesses' money to redistribute to their voting base. "The rich" worked hard to get what they have and should not be the govt's ATM machine. "The rich" will never be in the majority by definition and the constant mantra of tax the rich to give something to the poor is taking advantage of a minority to appease the majority and is a dangerous precedent. Republicans hate gays, non-whites, and women is about as tired as it comes too. Very nine-year-oldish. If you really believe that, you must not have spent much time with Republicans.

I don't agree with parents indoctrinating young children into one political party or another. Nine-year-olds DO NOT possess the ability to critically evaluate that which their parents are telling them; thus, anything to do with politics is indoctrination. Yes, Coty, your mom indoctrinated you into the Democratic party.

If my son wants to talk about politics in high school, I'll recommend some good books on economics and let him make his own decision on whether the rich should be allowed to re-invest their money or be forced to give it to people who did not earn it. A nice graph of the decrease in poverty with Bush's welfare reform would be a good start.

When I see little kids carrying political signs, I get a little angry, actually. I certainly would not let my 8-year-old watch the news--not interested in explaining the decapitation of a bus passenger to him or "why" there is a war going on. He knows who soldiers are and knows they are brave and help keep bad guys out of our country. That's it. If a 8 or 9-year-old does not want "peace" when the alternative is "war", there is something wrong with the kid. Problem is, the breadth of knowledge is not extensive enough for the child to make the tough decision for "war".

Questioning my intelligence and my mom's intelligence is inappropriate and hopefully your mother will have a chat with you on that. I graduated high school with a 4.0 and nursing with a tad under despite getting knocked up (and NOT having an abortion) and working two jobs. My son is in 2nd grade and tested at a 4th grade level in math and a 6th grade level in reading and spelling. I just do not believe in indoctrination, catchphrases and "eewww, Democrats" as a part of his education nor for any child (despite the public school system thinking otherwise). He does, however, study Latin which I think is a good base for the logical and language development of a child. Logical analysis of something is a learned skill and many just do not possess the skills needed to analyze something. When the time comes to deal with politics, hopefully he'll be able to arrive at the correct decision for the time and place that he lives.

He goes to the top-performing elementary school in my state, where parents send their "bored" kids. You're not dealing with a pack of dummies here, Ms. Coty.

Obama wants change, and that change is going to be a change in my take-home pay. I can't agree with that.
