Sanity is madness put to good use. – George Santayana

One of my coworkers said that it was like a scene out of the Wizard of Oz. The twister was coming and everyone was running for their lives. I’m really sorry that I missed JCAHO’s grand entrance into the Greatest Hospital in the World. Our unit was chaotic. It was filled with wild patients, and as always, we were understaffed. I heard that my boss called my other coworkers, begging them to come into work. They all declined her invitation. I guess my boss misplaced my home phone number. I never got a call. Maybe she was afraid that I might tell one of the inspectors about the JCAHO Readiness Swat Team, and what really happens on the unit.
Sometimes it pays to be a smarty-pants.

Ditto, ditto and ditto. I think every hospital I’ve worked for has there very same SWAT team… how ironic.
I always seem to miss the boat on the JCAHO-induced stress. If we do what we’re supposed to do every day, as part of our routine, then we won’t be running around like chickens with our head cut-off.

my hope is that with jcaho making unannounced visits, the staffing ratios will go up at facilities. it just pisses me off how every facility is understaffed and/or the staffing matrix sucks. it would be great if every administrator had to spend 5 days as an inpt somewhere….
think it is pretty funny that you didn’t get called ;D

Staffing ratios going up? Don’t count on it, you’ll just need to tap dance harder and faster for the assesser. I’m glad JCAHO is making surprise visits because the hysteria before an announced visit is pointless. Do we really think they are fooled?

Bwah! I made the same Freudian slip! Down! Staffing ratios go down!

When the state visits it’s amazing how may workers are called in. Even the supervisors are out on the floor helping to feed the patients.
One of my pet peeves is the lack of time (& personnel) given to feed patients. Slow eaters slowly starve. The state never sees the truth.

I was selected by the regulators (8 people standing in a circle around me with clipboards) last time to answer an assload of trivia questions for like 10-15 minutes…I didn’t choke. *Whew* It’s really scary.

LOL If you think that’s bad wait till you see what happens when public health comes. I remember managers running to the parking lot with extra comodes and etc. They would store them in their cars until the inspection was over. The whole thing is such a joke.

I snagged the image off the Internet after doing a Google image search. I couldn’t find a high resolution image when I was looking for one. Sorry.
