Sanity is madness put to good use. – George Santayana

I’ve been reading the Tweets coming out of Iran today, alternating between hope and despair. One tweet caught my eye. Someone who said they saw police keeping patients from entering a hospital in Tehran wrote it. The tweet said that police had surrounded the hospital. It also said that police were beating doctors who tired to give aid to dying patients. I can’t imagine what those people are going through. God help the Iranian people.

I lived in the Middle East for about 6 months in the late 90′s. Life is sooooooo different there. I couldn’t even begin to write here in this comments section the gigantic chasm between our culture and that of over there. When I got home to America I actually bent down and kissed the ground….

I agree with Bo, albeit not having lived in the Middle East, have studied issues for years now.
Can anyone imagine our nation engaging such politics? While we had the high drama during the Bush/Gore era, we allowed things to proceed through the courts in legal manner. Yes, passions ran high, but without massive protests, and on the other side, an iron fist. God Bless America!

Wow. I am glad to be now living in a country where you can criticise the heck out of the Head of state without being penalised. Yay for democracy (imperfect though it is).

I think many of us are continuing to follow this story, hoping for calm, not a Draconian governmental response. It appears our hopes are dashed.
